George Laporte was a French painter, lithographer, and illustrator best known for his maritime oil paintings of coastal landscapes. Born on December 17, 1926 in Paris, France as the son of a taxi driver, Laporte went on to study international business before working as a customs agent. He began painting in the mid-1940s, and by 1958 he won the Sebastien Lepage Award at the Salon of French artists. He found a studio in Quiberon, Brittany in the 1960s where he began painting seascapes in earnest. He died November 7, 2000 in Paris, France.
